In 2003 Vita, Atpadi and Jath Thalukas of Sangli District was affected by severe drought which led to unemployment and famine. Sangli mission socity with the support of caritas India came forward to mitigate the problem by providing food for work to the people of the area . Through the work a few check dams and gully plugs which later helped recharging of underground water sources .

Flood Relief Programmes
The year 2005 saw the worst floods in the history of Maharashtra . With support from Catholic relief services and caritas, Sangli Mission Society immediately reached out to 7000 affected families in far flung villages in Sangli, Kolhapur and Ratnagiri districts. We distributed food materials, utensils, clothes, tarpaulins, blankets, etc to the affected.

Relief programme was followed by rehabilitation Phase in which damaged community structures were restored.

Cash for work
This helped 7100 flood affected Persons to earn some money as well as restoring the community structures. Other impact of cash for work are increase in the daily wages awareness about cleanliness of village and ownership of community structures by the community.

Seed Fair
Seed fair conducted in 23 villages helped 3000 farmers who lost seeds due to floods to buy new good quality seeds. Community based disaster preparedness training given to the villagers helped them to be prepared for disasters. Therefore during the 2006 floods people were able to manage by themselves and the damages were minimal.

All could benefit from the Seed Fairs as there was the availability of
       many traders under one roof.
The labour charges were increased from 30 to 40 and 50 to 60.
They were appreciative of the discipline and manner of work.
The villagers learned punctuality and group work.
Our Field Workers got new enthusiasm and vision of work.
The people became ready to fight for social justice.
A communitarian aspect became the hallmark of CFW.
Seed Fair was a great help for all the farmers who had lost their seeds during the flood.
Women empowerment became a reality through the SHGs.
The women who were constrained to the four walls of their house now became
       active & socially concerned.
In One of the Villages named Hanbarwadi the women could make their village
       an alcohol free village.
